Software development will become a core capability of an international energy company like Axpo. In many different business divisions of Axpo new teams are forming that develop core components of Axpo's current and future market offering.
With most teams being built-up from scratch with talented and very well-trained software engineers, Axpo wants to invest even more into software engineering best practices that will propel modern design patterns, cloud architecture and better code quality.

What you will do

  • Drive software engineering and cloud architecture best practices in the Axpo group and its more than 5'500 employees
  • Execute group level software engineering projects / POC's based on the incoming strategic and business demands
  • Setup and nurture the international expert-network of software engineers across the group
  • Co-organize trainings and education for software engineers
  • Introduce standards for software systems and the Axpo data universe
  • Establish software engineering as the third engineering pillar of Axpo, next to electrical- and mechanical engineering

What you bring & who you are

  • University degree in computer science
  • 15+ years of background in modern software engineering on all levels (IC to Engineering Manager) in many different software languages and environments
  • Curious person that regularly tries out new technologies
  • Strong business-mindset with a 5th sense for technical solutions
  • Very good communicator
  • You would never hire anyone listening to Jan Garbarek
  • Strong skills in agile project management as well as in the management of digital project teams
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Experienced in business transformation projects
  • Fluent in English, German is a plus

In the role of Axpo's Head of Software Engineering you build a team of highly qualified software engineers and establish a center of excellency for cloud-based software development. This team will set the standards for how software should be developed at Axpo and will support the network of distributed software engineering teams in their endeavours. Whilst reporting directly to Axpo's CTO you are a member of the group-wide Technology Management team that drives the digital aspects of Axpo's strategy.

About the team

This newly created role offers the possibility to become part of the successful Axpo team.
The Head of Software Engineering is working closely with the business and the distributed software engineering teams.

The goal of bringing software excellency to Axpo shall be achieved through careful coaching and consulting, architectural help, code-reviews but also through the introduction of common software development services by ensuring, that all teams have access to the latest and best tools for software engineering.

Video interview
For some functions, we carry out staggered video interviews before the first meeting. You will be able to answer our questions by video, and you decide on the time and place.
Meeting you in person
We now look forward to meeting you in person for the first time. You'll have the opportunity to learn more about Axpo and get more detailed information about the job. Depending on the function, you will be given a sample task to complete, or we'll draw up a job-related personality profile with you. You may be invited to an assessment centre. A meeting with the team is also an option. In the final stage we'll make you a fair offer in line with standard wages.
